2018 New Year’s Resolution Update

Today marks the final day of New Year’s Resolution and having posted on 99 out of the 100 days that I originally aimed to write on LinkedIn, I’m pretty happy with the ultimate result.

The original purpose for taking on this LinkedIn challenge was twofold:

First, I wanted to build a reputation for my digital marketing consultancy through quality content; but second and more importantly, I wanted to build up a habit of writing and sharing what I wrote regularly.

For years now I’ve wanted to be a content creator — becoming a person who regularly shares what he thinks through writing and engaging with people about it. Until this LinkedIn project, I never truly applied myself and so am grateful that I both had the opportunity to write this often and proud that I followed through.

I won’t lie, writing every day was hard and towards the end of this challenge, the quality of my posts definitely dropped off and a lot of times my posts weren’t even about marketing or sales (the topics that I originally wanted to focus on). But having finally built up a writing habit, I want to continue writing and posting regularly — just not on LinkedIn.

Besides posting on LinkedIn in the past 100 days, I also started writing regularly on Quora and have found the platform to be a great way to share my thoughts and engage with others (at time of writing, my writing has been seen over 220k times on Quora!)

As mentioned above, I definitely want to keep writing and sharing regularly, but instead of focusing on posting once a day like with the 100 day LinkedIn challenge, I simply want to spend 45 minutes every weekday writing on Quora. The key difference between this approach and what I used to do is instead of forcing myself to post every day, I want to give myself more time to come up with better answers and share those instead. The reality is quality answers take more than one day to write, so I’m hoping by providing less but better answers on Quora, I can significantly improve the quality of my writing.

That pretty much sums up one of my primary goals for Quarter 2 of 2018 — hopefully I’ll be back in 80 days time with a solid update!
